ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
THE FACES OF MALNUTRITIONThese are the faces of malnourished children in the villages around the Quessua Methodist Mission of the East Angola Conference, near the city of Malange. Severe malnutrition in children under 5 years old has re-emerged as a devastating side effect of the COVID pandemic.
Dr. Garcia, a medical missionary supported by Florida United Methodist churches, has started a program to provide food for and regularly see these severely malnourished children. Currently 250 children participate in the program. Unfortunately, regular food is barely making a dent in this calamity as only 18 children have gained a healthy weight over the last 15 months. If we believe statistics, if no action is taken, 50% of these malnourished children will perish. But we are people of faith and action! We are asking individuals and churches to contribute towards the purchase of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF) to help these children and many others regain their health and vitality.
